IRDM Integrated Developent Module

IRDM stands for Integrated Rural Development Module

  • Rural Development is the global and coordinated approach / process (through policies and projects) which attempts to positively affect the rural areas in their diverse components:
  1. Social components: demography, services (education, health, etc)
  2. Economic components: activities, employment, resources
  3. Environmental components

The objective of Rural Development is to make better use of complementarities between towns and countryside, and valorise the specific resources of rural areas. In countries like Cambodia, Rural Development is mainly geared towards alleviation of poverty

  • 'Integrated' means that the different components / activities of the proposed interventions (by projects or governments) are addressing most key problems and constraints identified in the concerned rural areas. These components complement each other well when the key problems are inter-related and well coordinated together during implementation. This maximizes the benefits from possible synergies between components and activities.
  • 'Module' means a set of tools / actions forming a solid, comprehensive package, which can be used identically under different circumstances. For IRDM, a module is a specific package of interventions addressing the needs of particular zones / villages / farmers, according to local conditions. Hence M1, M2, M3 and M4 modules

Integration / Synergies between components (for better efficiency and effectiveness) (1)
