Goal

"The overall objective of the project is to contribute to poverty reduction through increased household income, particularly through increased agricultural sector productivity, and increased local community empowerment in selected rural areas of Cambodia." (FA, Annex 2, page 3)

Project Purpose

"The project purpose is the economic and social development of the smallholder farmers and their family members living in the project area, in ways that accrue equitably to both men and women. Other key stakeholders include Commune Councils, provincial government departments, government service providers, private sector, and local NGOs." (FA, Annex 2, page 3)

Main Results

Result 1:

Agricultural, livestock and fisheries Production intensified, diversified and increased; Activities will be implemented through four integrated agricultural, livestock, and fisheries modules based on the four predominant farming systems in the three main existing ecological zones in the project area. Small-scale (preferably <300 ha) irrigation schemes will be promoted and developed as necessary.

Result 2:

Economic and employment opportunities developed; supporting activities will focus on creating of farm job opportunities through vocational training and market-orientated activities, including identification of opportunities for organic products.

Result 3:

Empowerment of local communities; activities will focus on capacity building of commune councils to improve planning, implementing and monitoring capabilities, setting up farmers organizations for the maintenance of the physical infrastructure and marketing of produce, and at village level through improved literacy and awareness for sanitation, health, gender and mines.

Result 4:

Improved physical access to available social amenities and markets, greater access to potable water supplies; supporting activities include the construction of basic amenities and services such as potable water through wells, boreholes and ponds; together with rehabilitation and construction of sub-tertiary roads, as well as easier access to credit.

Result 5:

Safer and permanent access to arable land and social infrastructures; through the provision of land title, installation of a sustainable capability at the commune level for a mine risk reduction programme fully integrated with commune development plans, and necessary mine clearance activities.

Result 6:

“ECOSORN Project efficiently and effectively managed” has been included of CMU, M&E, Database and Visibility programme.
